Sand Creation Contest

Hey there, it’s Jac!

Even though it may feel like summer is coming to an end, we still have a few weeks left to enjoy the sun and the beach. So, don’t let yourself mope around the house; be a part of Fire Island’s annual Sand Creation Contest – on Sept. 3.

Each year, the island hosts an end-of-summer sand-sculpting contest, where all ages and skills are welcome to build anything from castles to sea creatures. This year’s contest theme is national parks, so get your sand-creation ideas ready in advance.

The contest is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., with judging to begin at 1 p.m. Awards and prizes will be granted to the best sand sculptor at 2 p.m. This event is also offered on Sept. 4, at Watch Hill and the Sailors Haven Visitor Center.

What better way than to spend time this Labor Day weekend. And if you go, have fun, readers!
