Hop to springtime fun this weekend

Now that it finally feels like spring (with temperatures steadily creeping into the 70s), it’s time to get outside and celebrate the season, as well as Sunday’s Easter holiday. This weekend, there are two activities that truly embrace this time of year.

Spring Egg Hunt and Celebration, April 15. From face-painting and games to animal presentations (like live bunnies) and wildlife programs, there’s plenty to do at the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. Families with kids of all ages are invited to partake in these fun-filled activities, from noon-4 p.m.

While filling their baskets with colorful eggs, kids should be prepared for an appearance by the infamous Easter Bunny, too. The nature center is located at 62 Eckernkamp Drive. 631-979-6344. sweetbriarnc.org.

Easter Vintage Car Parade, April 16. Keep your eyes peeled for cars dating all the way back to 1918 at this Easter Sunday parade. The Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s 62nd annual family-friendly parade steps off at 1 p.m., led by the Garden City Kiwanis Easter Bunnies, who will ride in the first of several hundred antique and classic cars. Spectators are welcome to go to the pre-parade car exhibit, as the cars are assembling between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Parking Field 9E, east side of Franklin Avenue between 9th and 11th streets (entrance is at 9th Street).

You’ll be able to watch the parade along its route: cars will exit Parking Field 9E at 10th Street at 1 p.m. and travel south on Franklin Avenue to 7th Street, West to Hilton Avenue, where it will disperse at 3 p.m. 516-746-7724. gardencitychamber.org.

So, put on your sunglasses and enjoy the weather. Happy Spring! “Hoppy” Easter!
