New comic book convention comes to NYCB Live’s Cradle of Aviation Museum

If comics, collectibles and pop culture consume your life (in the best way possible), then Cradle-Con, with celebrities like Dan Harmon, co-creator of animated series “Rick and Morty,” is the place to be, June 23-24. The convention, created to raise funds for the museum’s Women in STEAM Education Programs, follows the adage, “for the fans, by the fans.”

Dan Harmon.

Along with Harmon, who will be giving out free autographs on Saturday afternoon and doing a live podcast of his show, “Harmontown,” in the evening, you can also look for Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, comic book writer and artist and director of Somos Arte. Miranda-Rodriguez, who will be on the Main Stage on Sunday, recently produced the project called “Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico,” an anthology that features DC comic book heroes (proceeds go to Puerto Rico). The stellar line-up of special guests includes:

Comic Artists:

  • Billy Tucci, a writer/illustrator, known for his creator-owned title and character, Shi.
  • Jennifer Hernandez, an artist and cover artist, who contributes to the IDW Publishing “Sonic the Hedgehog” comic book series.
  • Mark Russell, an American author, cartoonist and comic book writer, known for co-creating and writing “The Flintstones” comic book series.

Pop Culture Actors and Voice Actors:

  • Michael Bell, who has voiced characters in “The Transformers,” “The Smurfs,” “X-Men” and “The Incredible Hulk.”
  • Larry Kenney, who voiced Lion-O on the “Thundercats” original series.
  • Michael Copon, the Blue Power Ranger on “Power Rangers Time Force” TV series.

Continue to enter the fandom zone, especially if you ever wanted to be a Jedi. Cradle-Con gives you that opportunity with the “Train to be a Jedi” program, which offers hands-on advice and instruction (both days) from the Saber Guild – Endor Temple, a Star Wars costuming group that specializes in choreographed lightsaber shows. And, enter into a Cosplay Contest (also both days) to show off your costuming and character skills. You can also shop for rare books, toys and other collectibles from vendors like Best Comics, Gotham City Games, The Comic Depot, Royal Collectibles, Ole Jade Jaw Custom Collectibles and more. I’m sure you’ll find something special to bring home!

Without a doubt, Cradle-Con, with its full line-up of guests, panels and activities, is an attraction where “the fan always comes first.”
