Say hello to the Year of the Dog with a Lunar New Year Celebration at the Tilles Center

This Friday marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year and to ring it in, you might want to get tickets for the Long Island Chinese American Association’s third annual Celebration, showcasing the diversity, splendor and richness of the Asian culture, held at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post, on Feb. 25.

Before the show, start with tastings of authentic Chinese cuisine; then, enjoy an afternoon of performances, like that of Feifei Yang who plays traditional Chinese instruments and the Sichuan “Face-changing” Opera by Zuhua Liao, with Liao presenting his secret stunts. A vibrantly colored lion dance will “roar” its way across stage, as well, to bring good luck and fortune; and Guinness World Record holder, acrobat Lina Liu, who is recognized for her umbrella juggling, will put on a show, too – how cool!

Afterwards, see live demos of painting, calligraphy, sugar painting and dough sculpture. And, try your own hand at traditional crafts, including lantern-making, paper-cutting, painting and shadow-theater play.

I’d recommend snagging your tickets now for this event, which is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Happy Lunar New Year!
