The most wonderful time of the year for a tree festival

Wow – just a day from stuffing ourselves with too much turkey and we’ll be on to trees, trees and more trees to view and buy at the 27th annual – and spectacular – Long Island Festival of Trees, held Nov. 25-27, at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.

Step right up because the main attractions at this fest are the designer-decorated trees, 300 of them (yes, you read that correctly), as well as a gingerbread village. Trees, dressed in varying themes, decorations and accents, come in two sizes: 6 ½ feet and 2 ½ feet. They just fill up the space and are well worth gathering around. However, design work doesn’t stop with the trees, as the culinary students from the Barry Tech Institute in Westbury have crafted original gingerbread creations for you to enjoy. Better yet, all the trees and gingerbread are for sale. After all, this event is a benefit for the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Inc., and the museum.

The fun doesn’t end with trees and gingerbread; there’s plenty of live entertainment to fill this three-day holiday weekend, like performances by Leggz Ltd. Dance from Rockville Centre and Mary’s Christmas Ramblers. Characters from a galaxy far, far away are making an appearance at Saturday’s Star Wars-themed day; and on Sunday, it’s Irish Day with Irish dances and Tara Pipes and Drums.

Of course, Santa is stopping in because he wouldn’t miss this holiday extravaganza. And, there will be shopping for cool stuff, like jewelry, accessories and decorations, at the vendor booths – which I know will help me find some unique gifts for those left on my to-buy-for list.

And if you go, have fun and maybe even bring yourself home a designer-decorated tree, readers!
