Long Island Fair returns to Old Bethpage Village Restoration

There’s no need for the end-of-summer blues; say hello to autumn with a visit to the Long Island Fair – celebrating 175 years – at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, on Sept. 16 and 17, and Sept. 23 and 24.

At this county fair for all Long Island, you can experience days of yesteryear on the recreated historic Mineola Fairgrounds, while you peruse thousands of exhibits, which are entered to compete for blue ribbons in categories like culinary, horticulture, livestock, needlework and hobbies. There are varied competitions for all ages, including axe throwing, crosscut sawing and log rolling; as well as kids’ corn-husking contests and all-day races.

Musicians, jugglers, mimes and magic shows are among the many options of entertainment available. However, don’t miss out on the Circus Dubois in the Circus Tent, on Saturdays; and the Old Time Baseball games in the baseball field, on Sundays.

Head on out to the Long Island Fair, as you just can’t miss a fair that has become such a longstanding tradition for so many Long Islanders.
