Chanukah Experience returns this weekend

‘Tis the season for latkes, dreidels and Menorah lights! So, if you celebrate the Festival of Lights, you won’t want to miss Chabad of Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh’s Chanukah Experience – back for its 10th year, on Dec. 25.

This festive “experience” begins at 3 p.m., at the Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Merrick. It is here where there are various Chanukah activities set up for kids to partake in and to enjoy. As they get busy, adults can see what’s going on at the Potato Latke Fry-Off competition. Three people can participate in the fry-off, vying to be crowned the Potato Latke Champion of the year. As of today, two people have entered and one more competitor is needed. If you are interested in putting your latke-making skills to the test, contact Adina at programs@chabadjewishlife.org or 516-833-3057 (prior arrangements need to be made).

Following the games and latke competition, everyone can gather at the Chabad Center parking lot to marvel at the annual Great Menorah Car Parade. The procession, led by a 1966 Pontiac GTO with a rooftop Menorah, begins on Benson Lane and finishes at the Merrick LIRR Gazebo on Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway.

There will also be a Chanukah performance by the Jewish Early Learning Center kids, the kindling of a 12-foot Menorah, music, dancing and a live fire juggling show, as well as jelly donuts, latkes and Chanukah gifts for all.

So, if you want to have a “latke” fun, then you really must stop by, readers!
