August on Long Island is the perfect time to catch free movies – outdoors

Watch some well-loved or newer films, from the comfort of a beach chair or blanket, as it’s the season for outdoor, free film screenings here on Long Island. Whether you choose to watch from the grassy lawns at Eisenhower Park or by the bay at Sunset Park in Port Washington, you and your family are sure to make memories under the stars. Don’t forget to bring popcorn!

Harry Chapin Theatre, Eisenhower Park. “Ferdinand,” the 2017 fantasy-adventure film about a giant-but-gentle bull who refuses to participate in bullfighting, screens at dusk, on Aug. 9, at the theatre, located at Parking Field 6/6A at the park, in East Meadow. Jones Beach Bandshell. “The Incredibles,” the 2004 Disney-Pixar film about a family of superheroes, screens at 8 p.m., on Aug. 9, at the bandshell on the boardwalk at the beach, located in Wantagh. Other films will be screened on Aug. 16, 23 and 30. jonesbeach.com.

Southampton Arts Center. “Ready Player One,” the 2018 science fiction-adventure film about virtual reality software, screens at 8:30 p.m., on Aug. 10, outside the arts center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton.
