Get your Irish on early this weekend

Journey back to rural Ireland, pre-famine, with the Dublin Irish Dancers, who, through traditional melodies and dance steps, demonstrate life in the kitchens, barns and fields in “Stepping Out,” on March 3, at Madison Theatre in Rockville Centre.

A really cool element to this show, for me, is that it depicts immigration to America. The show delves into how different cultures came together, with ancient Irish tunes fusing with African rhythms to create American tap dance and early roots music.

“Stepping Out” concludes with present-day, showing how Irish culture’s music and dance is still performed today.

If you can’t make the performance this weekend, the Dublin Irish Dancers will also be dancing across the Staller Center’s stage in Stony Brook, on March 10.

Jac’s quick pick: Teachers and students from the Mulvihill-Lynch Studio of Irish Dance are coming to perform at the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association in Huntington Station, on March 4. The dancers will also answer questions and teach Irish dance steps. For further information or to register, contact Carolyn at 631-427-5240, ext. 113. waltwhitman.org.
