Help send Strawberry on her way home on Earth Day

As someone who is passionate about preserving our planet and wildlife, I’m super excited to announce that Strawberry, a rehabilitated seal, is being released back into the wild, on April 22, at Ponquogue Beach – and we’re all invited to wish her luck on her new adventure. And, in honor of Earth Day, you’re also invited to take part in the Hampton Bays beach cleanup, immediately following this sweet pup’s release.

What a feel-good day!

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, a rescue and rehabilitation organization that promotes marine conservation, saved the female gray seal, now known as Strawberry, from a Southampton parking lot in January. Little Strawberry managed to crawl her way about a quarter-mile from the beach, but thanks to a notification from the public, the Foundation was able to come and collect her. Though Strawberry was kept for rehabilitation, she’s now ready to go home.

The Foundation is having an education table on site; so, check it out if you want to learn more about this organization and the animals it rescues.

If you happen to ever see a stranded marine animal or one in distress, call the Foundation’s 24-hour hotline at 631-369-9829.
